Since Feral Friends doesn’t operate a shelter and our volunteer foster homes are generally full with cats awaiting adoption (and because funding is limited to donations), we strongly recommend self-fostering. This essentially involves caring for the animal at home, bringing him/her to offsite adoption events, ensuring vet needs are met (we offer discounts). Please read our Foster Guidelines for more information.

If you know of an animal that is being abused, please contact your local animal services office or click here. You may also wish to contact Texas Humane Legislation, which promotes the humane treatment of animals through legislation, advocacy and education. They actively lobby the Texas Legislature to pass laws to protect the rights of animals.
Our Intake Criteria
All cats accepted into our Adoption Program must meet certain intake requirements to determine if they are suitable for adoption.
We do not accept domesticated cats/kittens that are elderly or chronically ill. If the cat you wish to place falls within this description, please reconsider. Cats do not adjust well to change, and the stress of a foster home, combined with appearances at our adoption location, is often too much for an older pet. Chronically ill cats also suffer these same stresses. Plus, they often do not have strong enough immune systems to cope with an adoption center situation, and their health deteriorates quickly.
Feral and semi-feral cats are not suitable for our adoption program. These cats are most comfortable in familiar surroundings, and forced socialization can be extremely stressful. For more information on how to help feral cats, please refer to our feral program.
Feral kittens that are taken in should be 12 weeks of age or less. They will not be placed into our adoption program until they are fully socialized. We recommend that kittens that don't fully domesticate within three weeks be sterilized and returned to the location where they were trapped.
If You Are Able to Foster
If the cat or kitten you’ve rescued or are surrendering meets these criteria, please complete our Intake Application. The information you provide will be the key to matching up your unique animal with the proper adoptive family.
Please complete our Foster Agreement if you can foster the cat or kitten and simply need help finding a safe, permanent and loving home. The foster agreement can be returned via e-mail to intake@feralfriends.org or faxed toll free to 1-866-865-6671.
